“He who sacrifices freedom for security deserves neither” (paraphrased) by Benjamin Franklin.
What does freedom mean to you? Does it mean that you can do whatever you want and not be accountable to anyone? Does it mean that you now have the freedom to give more of yourself to help someone else?
If you study the true history here in the U.S., you will find that our nation was built on physical slavery, harsh labor. Slaves were assigned a taskmaster who inflicted punishment upon them mercilessly. Now, America is built on financial slavery aka debt. The taskmasters evolved from using physical punishment to using ink and paper. So our nation is and has always been a giant plantation. The rules have changed but the story is the same.
But let’s get back to freedom. Never in the history of the world have people been willing to give up freedom for security. Do you really think security exist? Well, it doesn’t, it’s an illusion, something that appears to be real but in reality, is not.
The freedom that I’m talking about is not the constitutional rights although a case can be made about them. However, as far as rights are concerned, your liberties and security are both in God and not man. What God gives is eternal, what man gives is temporal.
I’m actually talking about financial freedom and job security because these are some of the personal issues that people are dealing with. We as a people have become conditionally complacent with job security believing that a job is going to take care of us in our golden years via pensions, 401ks, IRAs and so forth.
I believe that with the decimation of Detroit, job security does not exist anymore. I believe that Detroit is the beginning of many cities to fall because the state governments are either in the red or close to it. But freedom my friend, is your friend. You can help someone being free much better than you can being secure. Freedom gives you the ability to come and go as you please. Freedom gives you opportunities and choices that can never be found in security.
There is nothing right or wrong with job security. I just think it’s something wrong with not have freedom or developing something that can make you free. We as a people were born free so why not live in freedom so long as it does not violate the laws of God and hurts your fellow man?
Freedom is about bring responsible and accountable for your life instead of giving that choice to someone else. As I reminisce on reading the rich dad books, it dawned on me that his message was not just about having lots of money, it was about freedom.
In conclusion, security is synonymous with slavery. I used to work in a maximum correctional facility. All those men and women are very secure. Just thinking about that reminds me of how our lives are similar. The only difference is that our cells are invisible. The colonist Patrick Henry said give me liberty or give me death. Which will you decide? God bless.
