Change is something that we all must do. Unfortunately it is the thing we all hate because it is hard to do. A reason why change is difficult is because change requires you to get out of your comfort zone. You hear people say “oh, I’m too stuck in my ways to change”. In reality, that is nothing but an excuse. Everyone has the ability to change. But change must begin with you. I say this because we must make a conscious decision to change if we expect a positive result in our lives.
I want and need to lose 50 pounds. In order to lose that amount of weight, I must change my eating habits. I must implement a workout regimen that complements my diet. To succeed, I must change.
It has been said people live in a microwave society. They want results fast and now. However, real life does not work like that. There is a process involved and the process requires change. No one can or are able to do your changing for you. Change has a cost. The cost is different for everyone because everyone is different. If you want to change your life, you must first change your thinking.
The man or woman who refuses to change, will continue to stay the same. This is particularly true in marriage. One of the greatest challenges of change occurs in marriage. When you get married, you are accountable to your spouse. Life is no longer about you, it is about us. You have the responsibility to make sure your spouse needs are met. Communication, love and respect is critical to the success of a marriage. So if you fail to change in this regard, you contribute to the failure of your marriage.
Habits are hard to break. Especially if they have been ingrained into your thinking for many years. We must come to gripes that some things will never change. Some of our politicians are prime examples. Nevertheless, what ever change we desire for ourselves, must begin with us. In closing, I ask you the following questions. What does change mean to you? Is change necessary to become the person you want to be? What will life be like for you if you don’t change for the better?
“The secret of change is to focus all of your energy, not on fighting the old, but on building the new”-Socrates
