In today’s post, I want to talk about whether or not building your business offline is still effective. Currently, there is a train of thought in the industry that says old school network marketing is dead. Many online “gurus” say that cold calling is dead or the three feet rule is old news. Nothing could be further from the truth. Those strategies still work and always will as long as people exist. No someone may say “wait a minute, I live in a town of only a thousand people, how could that work for me”? The answer is to use online strategies, work your town and go out of town if that is realistically doable.

In my opinion, attraction marketing doesn’t mean that you completely disregard human interaction. Network marketing is still a face to face business. If you think about it, all of the top seven figure earners in MLM built their business offline first and used attraction marketing to leverage their success and credibility. I’m a fan of online network marketing by all means. I just believe that traditional marketing produces results because we are in the people business. People are online and offline.

I also believe that what you are marketing makes a difference. Some products and services are better promoted offline. For example if you have a physical product that you can give out as a sample  you will have better success. People love the free things so all you have to do is give your product out. Online, people are a little reluctant to give you their personal information. This is because they do not know you and you lack credibility.

In conclusion, building your business online is still effective because people still like to interact with each other. Can you imagine a world where there is no human contact and everything you need must be done online? No matter whether you are doing offline or online marketing, you still have to sell. Unfortunately, many online marketers think you don’t have to sell. That’s simply not true. You are selling business systems, sales funnels. Don’t allow technology to rob you of building real and lasting relationships.

Why Most people don’t make any money online.

If you’re like most of us, you came across an advertisement that says learn how you can make x amount of dollars per month. You probably thought it was a scam but you went ahead and took a look at it. You read some testimonials of people who were getting great results but were not sure if you could get them. Maybe those folks are the lucky ones you thought. They probably have a “hook up” you pondered.

While it is normal to have some skepticism, it is abnormal to  be completely close minded especially without doing any objective research. I want to talk about why people don’t make any money online and hopefully shed some light on the matter. I will also talk about the solution to making money online.

Okay, so here’s why most people don’t make any money online:

  1. They think everything is a scam– yes there are a lot of scams online. However, it is YOUR responsibility to do your own due diligence to find out which ones are scams are which ones are not. There are many wonderful opportunities that will allow you to realize your dreams and goals. But you have to examine the company, track record and owners of the company. In doing this often, you will be able to discern better.
  2. Push button mindset– This mindset probably affects about 90% of the marketers online. Sure it would be nice to push a button and get all the sales we want and become millionaires. Unfortunately, that’s not how it works. It seems as if people brought their job mentality to free enterprise and expect to make it big overnight. If they didn’t make it big overnight at their jobs, what makes them think they’re gonna make it big overnight in their own business? Go figure. Furthermore, when they don’t make it big guess what they say? I knew it was a scam.
  3. Don’t want to invest any money in their business- It amazes me that people want to charge top dollar for their products and services but what all the training etc without any investment for free. Only broke people think like that. Real successful people know that they have to invest in themselves and their business. They know that there’s no such thing as everything for nothing in return. While there are good resources that you can get for free, the best resources will cost you. One of the most important assets you have is time. Free will cost you time, paid will save you time. So invest in your business, this is not the lottery.
  4. Don’t want to work with a mentor-I think there was a song by Frank Sinatra titled ” I did it my way”. That’s exactly what most marketers agree to. They want to do it their way instead of working with someone who did it and got results with it. Entrepreneurs work with people who are better entrepreneurs than they are. They are called mentors. We all need mentors who can help us to become better. This is because we don’t know everything and require guidance especially in business. Most of us were taught to become employees by employees not entrepreneurs. In order to go from an employee to an entrepreneur, you need to taught by entrepreneurs.

In conclusion, These are the reasons why most people don’t make any money online. Making money online requires a plan and action consistently. Just like you went to school to consistently to get the degree for the profession you’re hopefully in, the same applies for the entrepreneur. You have to learn before you can earn. This is the process in a nutshell to generate leads for your business. The two simple ways to generate leads will work for any business. It doesn’t matter what your business is. If there is a market for your business, you can generate leads.

The key is to do a key word search on google ad words for what people are looking for online. For example, if you are with a direct sales company such as it works, you can simply do a keyword search regarding it works. You’ll see the keywords and the associated keyword phrases that pertain to it works. The next thing you’re going to do is write a blog post.

One of the most effective ways to generate leads is through a blog. Everyone and their mother has a blog for one reason. It’s an excellent branding and informational tool. So here, we are going to write a blog post about our company talking about our experience with the company and products. We are also going to talk about the benefits and why we choose our company. Next, we are going to use those key words and phrases that we found on google and put them in our blog post in the tags section.

Video

Video is a very important tool to build credibility, share information and generate leads. The same process that you use for the blog post is the same for video. You can create a video ad on Facebook and youtube and use those same keywords in your video in the tags section. Be sure to introduce yourself in the beginning of the video. A reason why video is important is because some people prefer watching videos to reading blogs. By incorporating videos with blogging, you will position yourself to generate leads for your business.

In conclusion, these are the two simple ways to generate leads for your business. Best of all, they are free strategies that anyone can do. They will work for any business digital or traditional. Why people hate network marketing

There are reasons why people hate network marketing. Most people believe that they have to hang out in shopping malls, passing out flyers. They think they have to beg, chase and convince friends and family to join their business. I can’t forget the dreaded home parties. Now this may work well for some people but unfortunately, it doesn’t work well for most.

The reason why it doesn’t work well for most people is because people have lives. Not to mention, we all have friends and family who are in an MLM business and not making any money. Furthermore, when we learn of the traditional activities that must be done, it doesn’t sound too appealing. This is why people hate network marketing.

In addition, people hate having to sell to strangers. Let alone making a spectacle of themselves with friends and family members. Look, people are tired and burnt out from working their jobs. In some cases, they are working two and three jobs. They have family responsibilities and about 5-6 hours of sleep, not quality sleep either.

They don’t have about five years to hopefully learn and grow to be successful in their network marketing career. It’s not because they don’t want to make the investment, it’s because they need to make things happen faster. While it is true, you are rewarded or punished for the life you lived prior to network marketing, if you knew you would be in the business now, you would have lived a different life!

You must be crystal clear about who your target market is. If you’re selling jewelry, it is highly unlikely that your target audience is looking to save money on energy. You must be crystal clear about who your target market is. There’s an ole saying that goes if you target everyone, you’ll hit no one. Everyone is not a good fit for your business and every person is not a prospect.

Chasing friends and family

We’ve all been guilty of this common mistake. Fortunately, I’ve had success with getting some friends and family to support me in business. However, I know from dealing with other siblings and relatives who said no, that the method of chasing them doesn’t work. Most family and friends want to see you make a million dollars before they join since you  them that you were going to make seven figures in a year. If they do get started, they expect to do nothing. You’re better off chasing a rabbit and catching it than chasing friends and family members and getting them to join.

Establish your why 

Everyday you need to remind yourself of your why. This is especially true when things are going well in business. You will have times in your business where no one is not signing up. So you need to have a strong why and realize that your why will bring you closer to your wishes. Most people don’t have a strong why. They why is why try it for now and see how it goes. If it doesn’t work, I’ll ask why can’t I have my money back? So their why turns into a why bother. Establish your why and be firm with it.

Personal development

A lack in personal development is the reason why people don’t stand on their why. Everyday we should be reading something that will keep us strong and motivated. The reason people quit is because they don’t have the mindset of a winner. A winner sees himself winning even though things in his life may appear that he’s losing. You must walk by faith not just spiritually, but mentally in regards to business. Your daily actions must support your faith. In actuality, personal development is derived from spiritual development. Develop your business mind with personal development and mindset training. Youtube, barnes and nobles is filled is relevant material that will assist you in this area.

Stay consistent

It’s not what you do once that gets you the prize. It’s what you continue to do day in and  day out. You must consistently expose people to your offers. Whether you choose to market or prospect, you must have some kind of daily action step. Unfortunately, most people take action a few times then stop for a longer period of time. Be consistent and persistent until you get what’s yours!

Maintain your focus

When I was with the Department of Corrections, I had a weapons instructor who used to always tell us to maintain your focus and discipline. He told us this because the  duties of a CO are very demanding. As a network marketer, you must maintain your focus. Meaning, have tunnel vision like focus. Don’t spread yourself thin trying to master every marketing strategy. If you are just starting out, use one paid and one free strategy. Otherwise, you will be a jack of all trades but a master at none. Maintain your focus.

Social media 

Social media should be included in your daily business activities. Network marketing is about building networks of relations. You want to surround yourself with people of like mind. As you do this, over time, some relations will turn to business partnerships. Social media is also a great place to build your brand. The more you build your brand, the more authorized you become. Provide value 

To gain the attention of your prospect, you must provide value. This is true if you want to stand out. Your company link is no longer enough, especially if you are building online. Why network marketing doesn’t work

There are several reasons why people say network marketing doesn’t work. First of all, when one gets started you have to make a list of 50 business builders and 50 product users to attack, I mean approach. Now there is one small issue. For most of us, we don’t know any business builders because our friends are not in business and those who are, probably shouldn’t be in business. As far as product users go, no one we know is interested in buying vitamins or protein shakes. So in general, our warm market is cold. Eric Worre, one of the greatest business trainers in MLM, says “you are either rewarded or punished for the life you lived prior to network marketing”. His words are very true.

Next, we have the home parties that we’re asked to do. Now I don’t know about you, but the idea of having strangers in my house, is not something I want to do. It does work well for some people, just not my thing. I believe people don’t mind having home parties, just not in their homes. I assume home parties were designed for warm market prospects not cold.

After home parties, we are told to go out places like malls or coffee shops and hangout for an hour. Now I’m a fan of talking to people while I’m out and about just not necessarily at malls and coffee shops. People who are at malls and coffee shops are there for one reason: to shop and to drink coffee not hear about a business opportunity. Again, if a conversation arises regarding a mutual interest, I have no problem conversing about business.

Here’s how to make it work

Most people are really busy working two and three jobs with two or three kids. I’m not making excuses, I’m talking about real life here. Obviously, there are little things that make the big difference such as doing cold calls during lunch break etc. However, in today’s world, time is somewhat an issue. I strongly believe in traditional MLM with Information age MLM. My thing is this: if you don’t have the money, invest the time. If you don’t have time, invest the money. Either way, there will be an investment on your part. Since quality time is an issue for most people, I recommend automating your business. That way, you’ll leverage the internet to help you build and grow your business, while you’re implementing the three foot rule etc if you choose to.

Automation is simply a no brainer. It makes the process easier and puts time on your side. It requires no home parties or hotel meetings. Automation doesn’t require begging, chasing or convincing friends and family to look at your opportunity. All you need is an offer, a landing page and an auto responder. That’s it. Share something of value and drive traffic to your offer. No more passing out flyers, no more sticking business cards in window shields.

In conclusion

There are reasons on why network marketing doesn’t work. There are also ways that you CAN make it work. It’s important to understand that everyone’s life is different. What worked for someone else may not work for you.  In this case, you will have to get creative. One of the things I love about doing MLM online, is that you can be creative. We all have a creative genius with in us. So use your genius to make network marketing work.
