Is building a business offline still effective?

In today’s post, I want to talk about whether or not building your business offline is still effective. Currently, there is a train of thought in the industry that says old school network marketing is dead. Many online “gurus” say that cold calling is dead or the three feet rule is old news. Nothing could be further from the truth. Those strategies still work and always will as long as people exist. No someone may say “wait a minute, I live in a town of only a thousand people, how could that work for me”? The answer is to use online strategies, work your town and go out of town if that is realistically doable.

In my opinion, attraction marketing doesn’t mean that you completely disregard human interaction. Network marketing is still a face to face business. If you think about it, all of the top seven figure earners in MLM built their business offline first and used attraction marketing to leverage their success and credibility. I’m a fan of online network marketing by all means. I just believe that traditional marketing produces results because we are in the people business. People are online and offline.

I also believe that what you are marketing makes a difference. Some products and services are better promoted offline. For example if you have a physical product that you can give out as a sample  you will have better success. People love the free things so all you have to do is give your product out. Online, people are a little reluctant to give you their personal information. This is because they do not know you and you lack credibility.

In conclusion, building your business online is still effective because people still like to interact with each other. Can you imagine a world where there is no human contact and everything you need must be done online? No matter whether you are doing offline or online marketing, you still have to sell. Unfortunately, many online marketers think you don’t have to sell. That’s simply not true. You are selling business systems, sales funnels. Don’t allow technology to rob you of building real and lasting relationships.

Why most people have a hard time building their business.

There is nothing more frustrating than wanting to build a business but getting no where. It seems like your dreams are rapidly fading before your very eyes. We know that building a business is hard however, we didn’t think it was this hard.

People have a hard time building their business for several reasons. I will go over some of the reasons that I have experienced. Building a business can seem like a daunting task. Friends and family offering ridicule etc.

so here are some of the reasons why people are having a hard time building their business:

No daily routine or lack of a daily activity.

If you want to succeed in business, you need a plan of action. At the end of the day, how many people did you talk to, mail samples/business info to? how many calls did you make? How many samples did you give out? If you are not moving forward in your business, you are moving backward by default.

Afraid to talk to strangers.

When we where young, we were told not to talk to strangers. It is no wonder why as adults, we don’t like to talk to strangers! There are times when we just don’t want to talk to anyone, but the big money is made dealing with people you don’t know. Of course only talking to friends and family will cause you to have a hard time in business. There are hundreds, even thousands of people who possibly want what you have to offer. But you gotta talk to them.

Unable to offer samples of the company product.

One thing people love is the word free. People love trying new products for free. Unfortunately, many companies do not offer a free service or product that consumers can try before they buy. This is not to say that you can’t do well if you don’t offer samples. I just believe that if you have a product that’s in big demand and you can offer as a sample such as this product, you will really do well faster depending on your work ethic etc.

No self belief or confidence.

Network marketing is a simple business. It’s not easy, but it’s simple. If you are going to have even a little bit of success, you must believe you can have it. The problem is most home business owners do not believe which is why their actions are a result of what they believe. You can read all of the books on confidence and belief but the only way to gain confidence and belief is to do that which you fear period.

Think they have to know it all.

Yet another reason why most people have a hard time building their business is because they think they need to know it all. Every company has a presentation be it an online video or DVD that you can use to educate a prospective candidate. You never need to know everything. Utilize tools to answer your prospects questions.

No money to invest in own business and oneself.

In business, you need to invest and re-invest in your business. There is really no such thing as something for nothing especially when you are thinking long term. It amazes me how so many people are looking for deals that require no initial investment on their part. You cannot have success with a real business unless you are willing to pay a price. The same goes for oneself. You should be reading books that motivate, educate and inspire you. Most companies offer a recommended reading list. The list is compiled with books that have influenced millions of men and women. You should be reading something regularly regarding business and personal development.

In conclusion, these are some of the reasons why most people have a hard time building their business. If you treat your business like a hobby, it will pay you like a hobby. We have a hard time because we make it hard. A few simple disciplines will go a long way.

Why People Don’t Want To Be Sold

Life is a business of confidence and experiences. Life is also a business of selling. If you think about it, you were involved in selling the majority of your life. If not, you wouldn’t have a job. Neither would you have a spouse or significant other.

People are consumers. In order to consume, someone has to sell you something. Even though we like buying, we don’t want to be sold anything. Sounds weird doesn’t it? I want to talk about why people don’t want to be sold. There are several reasons which I will cover.

Sales people are annoying.

The first reason why I feel people don’t like to be sold is sales people are annoying. Although I am a sales rep, I have to agree there is some truth in that statement. We all recieve phone calls from sales people offering the latest and greatest products that money can buy. People don’t want to be called repititiously. I can’t recall the number of times a rep called me trying to sell me something. If you are in sales, do not annoy people by continuing to call them. This is not good practice and does not make you credible in a prospects eyes.

People don’t like to be pressured.

The second reason why people do not want to be sold is pressure. I understand that you have to create a sense of urgency. However, I feel that if you press people into buying, they are going to say no, or they will buy and then ask for a refund later. Pressuring prospects to buy makes them think that what you are offering is not legitimate. Do not pressure people into your products and services. Again, not good practice.

Prospects want to control the buying process.

Prospects want to control the buying process meaning, they want to decide for themselves what they want to buy and how much they are going to spend. This is of course after you presented your offers first. Prospects want to buy at their own will and should. If you notice on Facebook for example, people are spamming their offers. When you spam your offer, you are sending unsolicited information to folks who never requested it. If a prospect buy something, they will do so at their leisure AFTER you provided value on why they should buy.

In conclusion, these are some of the reasons why prospects do not want to be sold. People are naturally skeptical anyway. Never beg or convince prospects to buy. If someone wants your products, they will let you know.

Stop Begging Prospects To Look At Your MLM Opportunity

When we first get started in MLM, we want everyone we know to look at our business. We know we have a goldmine because our sponsor said so. So we hunt people down to the point that even our friends don’t want to be bothered anymore. This is because the light bill is due and the gas bill too. We are behind on the mortgage, and bill collectors are calling. Nevertheless, we beg and beg until someone says, “ok! I will look at your stinking business!”.

Where did this begging mentality come from? It came from desperation. MLM is the light at the end of the tunnel. It is a ticket to personal and financial freedom. In network marketing, you can do things that you could never do with a job. Yet, we continue to beg prospects to see our presentation. Network marketing requires you to handle yourself from a position of power. You don’t want everyone in your business. You only want people who are committed to the process of practicing a few disciplines consistently.

Stop begging prospects to look at your business. You have the goose that lays the golden eggs. When you beg potential business partners to look at your business program, you are coming from a needy position. When people sense that, do you know what they say? They say NO!! Instead of you disqualifying them, they disqualify you.

In conclusion, stop begging prospects to look at your MLM opportunity. If you convince them to join you, you will convince them not to quit. Begging makes you look like an amateur salesman, not a professional net worker.

The Greatest Story Ever Told, Is The Story Of YOU

I love stories. Even as a child, there was nothing like going to bed on a good story. Naturally, children never want to go to sleep until you mention the word bedtime story. Even still, you may have to give them a sales presentation on why they need to come to bed. Some of my favorite bed time stories were “Charlotte’s Web” and “Jack and the Beanstalk”. Who could ever forget “The Three Little Pigs” and ’Little Red Riding Hood”?

Stories are powerful. They stimulate the part of the brain that influences imagination and creativity. As adults, we have stories to tell. Not necessarily childhood stories, but stories of experience. Stories are able to inspire generations. The greatest story ever told, is the story of you. I love to hear stories of how people overcame circumstances to accomplish great things. Even though the odds were heavily stacked against them.

In a world of uncertainty, a good story comes in handy. No matter what you are going through, there is a story inside of you. Don’t let your message die. Many people go to their graves with their message still inside of them. Understand that there is glory in your story. The greatest story ever told, is the story of you. You are unique and special in every way.

In the business world, it is said that facts tell, stories sell. Someone is waiting for your words. Many successful people got their start from humble beginnings. Some of these individuals were bankrupt, faced foreclosure and unemployment. However, they turned their mess into a message. What makes their stories real, is that the common man can relate to them.

I’ve heard the saying “Fact tell, stories sell” so many times it’s not even funny.

Unfortunately I never really paid much attention to it. Mostly because I didn’t think I was good at telling my story.

What Leaders Do That Non-Leaders Don’t

There are several things that leaders do that non leaders don’t. First off, there are good leaders and there are bad leaders. Dr. Martin Luther King was a good leader. Adolph Hitler was a bad leader. When you go into business, you automatically assume the role of a leader. It is your responsibility to learn, grow and show. There are activities that you the leader should be doing consistently. I will cover some of those activities and hopefully share something new with you.

Leaders are readers.

As a leader, you should be reading a book or article of some kind relating to your field of interest. Books on personal development, leadership and marketing is appropriate. Technology is constantly changing. What worked yesterday may not work today. That is why reading these kinds of books are important. Non leaders refuse to read because they either think they know it all or are just lazy.

Leaders lead by example.

This means you are on trainings, creating content and communicating with people. As an individual of influence, you should never ask someone to do something that you are not willing to do yourself. Leaders step up to the plate. Non leaders make excuses for why they are not getting the activities done.

Leaders think about moving forward.

Leaders are always in production mode. Even on vacation, they are observant of the next prospective candidate. Leaders think and plan the next course of action to take. They have a vision for where they want to go in life. There is really no such thing as a day off. Their motto is, time is not money, time is results.

In conclusion, leaders do what non leaders don’t. These individuals set the bar and then raise it. Leaders take action in order to obtain a desired result. Once obtained, they raise the bar higher to get a better result than the first. Do what leaders do to have where leaders have.
